From April 28th to 29th, the mid-term review expert consultation meeting and project management work meeting for the key technology development project of titanium alloy return material utilization and efficient short process preparation of plates and pipes, jointly undertaken by 9 participating units and hosted by Baowu Special Metallurgy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Baowu Special Metallurgy) and Kunming Iron and Steel Yunnan Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Yunnan Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.), was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The purpose of this meeting is to review the progress of the project, consult expert guidance, determine project implementation management requirements, and develop corresponding measures to ensure the smooth progress of the project as planned.
Mao Xinping and Han Enhou, academicians of the CAE Member, An Zhongsheng, vice president and secretary-general of the Titanium Zirconium Hafnium Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, Xu Hong, senior accountant of the General Institute of Iron and Steel Research, Chang Hui, professor of Nanjing University of Technology, Liu Qingju, professor of Yunnan University, Zhang Yuqin, professor of Kunming University of Science and Technology, Chu Shuangjie, the project leader and chief scientist of Baowu, Li Yongdong, deputy general manager of Baowu Special Metallurgy, Ji Bo, a Chinese Baowu engineering scientist, Liang Gaofei, general manager of Baowu Special Metallurgy Titanium Business Department, Shi Yaming, chief engineer of Baowu Special Metallurgy, and relevant personnel from all participating research units attended the meeting.
On the afternoon of April 28th, an expert consultation meeting for the mid-term review of key technology development projects for the utilization of titanium alloy return materials and efficient short process preparation of plate and pipe materials was held, chaired by Mao Xinping. The project leader and the leading units of each project report on the progress of the project's research and development work. The attending experts, in conjunction with the management requirements of the Ministry of Science and Technology for project implementation, provide guidance on the current difficulties and next steps of the project, as well as funding management and other matters.
The meeting believes that the project is aimed at major national strategic needs such as ocean engineering and transportation, focusing on the core pain point of "relatively high cost of titanium alloy" in the industry. It is of great significance to develop high specific strength, high corrosion resistance, low-cost titanium alloy plates/pipes and their efficient short process preparation technology based on the extensive use of recycled materials. The project has been effectively organized and managed, and the overall progress of various work execution is good. Among them, breakthrough progress has been made in the use of single EB new alloy casting technology with returned materials and single heat ultra wide ultra-thin plate rolling technology. The attending experts put forward targeted opinions and suggestions on metal material regeneration, application demonstration, key breakthrough technology routes, cost allocation, and other aspects.
On the morning of April 29th, the second management work meeting for the 2024 key technology development project of titanium alloy return material utilization and efficient short process preparation of plate and pipe materials was held, with Chu Shuangjie presiding over the meeting. Liang Gaofei reported on behalf of the project team on the progress of project management and the completion of mid-term assessment indicators. The project leaders and project leaders exchanged and discussed the problems that existed during the project progress and the next steps of work.
Chu Shuangjie proposed requirements for the arrangement of follow-up work: firstly, all units should attach great importance to it, strictly follow the requirements of the task book, highlight the requirements of efficient and short processes and cost reduction, promote project research and development work according to the mid-term plan schedule and indicators, strive for practical results, and prepare for the mid-term inspection of the project organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology; Secondly, the project team should conscientiously implement the spirit of the 7 project meetings, especially the requirements of the responsible experts. Each project leader should strengthen communication and contact with the responsible experts, fulfill their project responsibilities, and pay attention to the development of the work of the participating units while doing a good job in their own unit. They should also give full play to the role of the participating units; Thirdly, the application of project intellectual property rights should comprehensively and uniformly reflect the contributions of various relevant research units; Fourthly, during the project acceptance, each project should be supported by qualified third-party testing reports and other relevant supporting materials regarding the completion of relevant indicators undertaken; The project leader should arrange specific work based on the actual situation of each topic.
After the meeting, the attending experts and personnel from various research units went to Yuntai Co., Ltd. to visit the company's exhibition area, EB furnace titanium ingot melting and casting site, and 20 roll cold rolling mill production site to learn about the company's conventional products such as EB ingots, hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, wide and thick plates, as well as new products such as TC4, Ti80 titanium alloy round ingots, large-diameter seamless pipes, titanium alloy rods, and TC4 hot rolled titanium coils. They had discussions and exchanges on Yuntai Co., Ltd.'s technical equipment, production capacity scale, product types, and future development plans, and had in-depth exchanges and discussions on leveraging the advantages of EB furnace, strengthening steel titanium collaboration, and assisting the smooth progress of the project.
